Heat Pumps

heat pumpsHeat Pumps can be found in just about every home. A refrigerator or freezer is a very good example of effective use of heat pumps. A refrigerator transfers heat from inside to outside its compartment.

Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems extract heat from the earth all year round via ground heat collectors. These reliable heat collectors are buried beneath the ground’s surface to produce energy through a series of pipes which can be used to heat buildings (underfloor heating is very popular). This process can also be reversed to provide cooling (air-conditioning) for the building extracting heat from the building and transferring the heat into the ground.

Ground Source Heat Pumps can generate up to 4kW of heat energy for every 1kW of energy input and can significantly reduce the CO2 emissions associated with heating/cooling a building. Furthermore systems require minimal maintenance, thus making GSHPs a viable alternative for many commercial buildings.
